In 1821 Henry County, also known as the “Mother of Counties” emerged out of land acquired from the Creeks at the Treaty of Indian Springs. In May of that year, the land was divided into five counties—Fayette, Houston, Dooly, Monroe and Henry. Stretching north from Jackson to the Chattahoochee River, Henry County encompassed not only today’s current land area, but also the counties of Fulton, DeKalb, Clayton, Rockdale, Newton, Butts and Spalding, giving Henry its nickname.
